The Bacteriological kit No. 3 was originally put together for UNICEF and is currently being used across the world as a solution to water testing challenges. The Kit No.3 includes the Oxfam-DelAgua Single Incubator which was designed for microbiological water monitoring via detection of indicator organisms such as e coli, cholera, salmonella and other faecal water borne pathogens, and is the most popular portable water testing system in the developing world. The Single Incubator was developed by scientists at the University of Surrey in collaboration with colleagues at Oxfam. It was designed to help provide information about the safety of water supplies in difficult situations or remote areas where laboratory facilities do not exist. The DelAgua Bacteriological Test Kit No. 3 also contains a Multiparameter Photometer (reagents on request), a Total Dissolved Solids (TDS), Conducivity and pH meter, and a Turbidity Meter. All in all, 40 basic tests can be measured to assess the quality of the drinking water. The kit is designed for use in the field, but may also be used in a laboratory or other permanent location. The kit can be supplied with a range of accessories that will increase the scope of your water quality monitoring. Critical Parameter Tests The Bacteriological Kit No.3 will perform the following tests: Thermotolerant (faecal) Coliform Count The kit includes a portable, integral-battery-powered incubator capable of making up to five cycles of incubation without mains electricity, generator or vehicle power. Thermotolerant (faecal) can be obtained within 14 to 18 hours of sampling, giving a reliable indication of sanitary risk without need for transport or laboratory facilities. Turbidity Test A measure of the amount of suspended matter in a water supply. Suspended material may consume chlorine disinfectants and require treatment before disinfection. There are two options for turbidity measurement. The first is via a siple Jackson Tube (measuring up to 2000 NTU). There is also a portable digital turbidimeter with a 0-1000NTU range for imprved accuracy at levels below 1000 NTU. Chlorine & pH Tests Many emergency water supplies are dosed with chlorine disinfectant to ensure their safety as drinking water. These tests allow rapid assessment of chlorine levels and aid the efficient control of dosing thereby avoiding waste and ensuring that enough chlorine is present to safeguard the supply. Conductivity and TDS A conductivity meter is provided with this kit. Conductivity provides an indication of contamination e.g. saline intrusion or sewage pollution. In addition, this conductivity meter also measures TDS as an indicator of contamination. Additional equipment can be included on request to test for chemicals that may be of local importance. The photometer included in the kit is preprogrammed for over 40 tests and requires reagents. The tests that can be done are for: Alkalinity, Aluminium, Ammonia, Boron, Bromide, Calcium Hardness, Chlorine DPD, Colour, Copper, Cyanuric Acid, Fluoride, Hardness, Hydrogen Peroxide, Iron, Magnesium, Manganese, Molybdate, Nitrate, Nitrite, Organophosphate, Ozone, pH, Potassium, Silica, Sulphate, Sulphide, Zinc Reagents are available on request.
