We love to celebrate World Water Day; the day raises awareness of the 2.2 billion people worldwide living without access to safe water. Water testing kits are where we started and today we are also giving access to clean, safe water to rural Rwandans by providing the DelAgua stove. The theme this year is ‘Valuing Water’ which means recognising and considering all the benefits provided by water. We value water for better health, especially helping those in rural communities have access to clean safe water.

The DelAgua Water Testing Kit was originally designed to monitor the quality of drinking water at source in remote rural communities. Today the DelAgua kit has many different variations and is used in over 150 countries, helping to monitor the safety of drinking water for millions of people.

In Rwanda 5.1 million people do not have access to clean water and often have to travel long distances to fetch water. This chore falls to the children who miss out on school because of the time this takes. With the DelAgua stove, safe water is readily available as the stove is quick to light and boils water in a matter of minutes. Mothers value the speed and ease with which they can provide clean water for their families. That means a reduction in waterborne disease particularly for vulnerable young children.

A core focus of World Water Day is to support the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG)6: water and sanitation for all by 2030. The new SDG 6 Summary Progress Update 2021 report provides the latest available country, region and world data on all of the SDG 6 global indicators. It outlines how far we have come and where there is still work to be done to ensure sustainable water and sanitation for all by 2030.
