Verra Tags Nearly 1 Million Additional DelAgua Credits for CORSIA Phase 1, Bringing Total to 8.3 Million
DelAgua has today announced that 959,354 carbon credits from its Sierra Leone project (VCS3837) have been tagged as CORSIA Phase 1 eligible on the Verra registry. This brings DelAgua’s total CORSIA eligible issuance to 8,338,863 credits across Rwanda, Sierra Leone and The Gambia, further positioning the company as the world’s largest supplier of non-jurisdictional CORSIA eligible credits. Following this tagging, Sierra Leone will become the third-largest Host Country in Africa for CORSIA credits after Rwanda and Madagascar and the largest in West Africa.
Airlines seeking to meet their CORSIA offsetting obligations now have access to a substantially larger pool of CORSIA Eligible Emissions Units (CEEUs) from VCS3837, with these credits adding to those first tagged from the project in January 2026.
Verra’s approval offers buyers further certainty, protecting them in the event that a Corresponding Adjustment is not applied. This carbon accounting step is fundamental to the integrity of each credit, ensuring that every emission reduction is claimed only once. Airlines can therefore rely on the credits while the host government completes its Article 6 reporting.
“With demand for CEEUs accelerating ahead of the Phase 1 deadline, airlines need partners they can rely on to deliver at scale and at the highest standards. DelAgua has built a track record of consistent, verified issuances, and this tagging is further evidence of that. We expect to deliver 15 million CORSIA Phase 1 eligible credits in total by the 31st January 2028 retirement deadline, and we are proud to be playing a meaningful role in helping the aviation sector meet its climate commitments.” Euan McDougall, CEO DelAgua
Additionally, DelAgua confirms further supply in the pipeline, with Verra having approved the project’s Monitoring Period (MP5) for issuance and CORSIA Phase 1 tagging of these credits expected in Q1 2027. DelAgua received a Letter of Authorisation from the Government of Sierra Leone in 2024, and over 310,000 improved cookstoves have been distributed, free of charge, to rural households across the country. This project was also recently named Runner-up for Clean Cooking at the 60 Decibels 2026 Energy Social Impact Awards, with the awards based on Access & Inclusion, change in quality of life and challenges addressed by a project.
