DelAgua Host Partner Field Visit to Livɛ Fyn Project in Sierra Leone

On Wednesday 15th October 2025, DelAgua hosted our Sierra Leone Livɛ Fyn project partners for a field visit to Tonkolili District to witness the ongoing clean cookstove distributions and household usage of the Livɛ Fyn stove project.  

The delegation included representatives from the Ministry of Energy (MoE), the Ministry of Finance (MoF), the British High Commission, the Clean Cooking Alliance (CCA) Clean Cooking Delivery Unit and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). 

During the field visit, DelAgua Sierra Leone’s Country Director Ibrahim Marrah explained how DelAgua’s delivery process has been developed for maximum efficiency at the distribution sites, engaged with beneficiaries, and showcased the multiple economic, social and health benefits of the project. 

The team visited and observed the distribution process at Mathonkara distribution site in Tane Chiefdom. 8,070 clean cookstoves have been distributed in this chiefdom, with a total of 243,661 stoves distributed across Sierra Leone this year.

The DelAgua team explained: 

  • Beneficiary name verification processes: Beneficiary names verified against the pre-generated Master List. This was created through painstaking community level household- to- household name collection by the Youth Volunteer network and then validated by the Chiefdom. 
  • Poster issuance and signing: Beneficiaries signing a project poster confirming agreement, which also serves as evidence of participation and awareness creation. 
  • Stove collection: Beneficiaries were then issued their improved cookstoves and given usage instructions. 

The teams also held one on one discussions with community members in Malong Village, Kholifa Rowala Chiefdom. Three households were visited to assess the impact and gather beneficiary feedback. All the households expressed the benefits of the Livɛ Fyn stove: they said the stove is more efficient, consumes less firewood, and cooks faster than the 3 stone fire. They also commended the project for improving their cooking experience and reducing the burden of fuel collection.

This field visit is part of DelAgua’s strategy to strengthen collaboration with government institutions and partners supporting sustainable clean cooking initiatives. Strong partnerships with governments and development partners are fundamental both to scaling our programme and our belief in sharing best practise to further accelerate access to clean cooking. This close collaboration ensures that our efforts are aligned with national priorities. Together, we are not just distributing stoves, we are creating a programme that advances national climate goals, transforms lives, and delivers measurable, long-term benefits for communities and stakeholders alike.
