I joined DelAgua in 2014 as a Health Supervisor, and then promoted to the role of District Manager for a three-year period starting in 2015. In 2019, I was promoted to Program Coordinator until May 2023 when I got another promotion to my current role as an Expansion Assistant.
The different positions I have held in the past 10 years have allowed me to learn new skills and transition from field-based work to gaining a deeper understanding of the technical side of our carbon projects.
Over the years, DelAgua has experienced tremendous growth. I recall that upon my arrival at DelAgua, the workforce consisted of less than twenty (20) people and operations were limited to a single region. Today, DelAgua has progressively extended the Tubeho Neza (‘Live Well’) Program to all provinces in Rwanda, resulting in a fourfold increase in the number of employees.
The Tubeho Neza Program has worked with over 7,000 community-based workers and over 200 staff. The programme has also been used as a blueprint for similar programmes in The Gambia & Sierra Leone, with more countries to follow.
In my time at DelAgua, I have witnessed numerous notable milestones, among them the mass training of Community Health Workers in various communities between 2019 and 2022. The CHWs are an integral part of our distributions and household educational visits and so this training is crucial. All staff members participated in the training activities in the field and the collective effort of coming together and demonstrating a shared commitment to improving the lives aligned perfectly with my life’s overarching purpose.
Another significant milestone for my career is being part of the expansion of the “Live Well Program” to The Gambia & Sierra Leone. This was the first time DelAgua was implementing the programme outside of Rwanda. Travelling to these 2 countries, interacting with communities and understanding their unique clean cooking needs and tailoring the programme to that.
Overall, my work with DelAgua over the past 10 years has been fulfilling at a personal and professional level and I look forward to the years ahead.
