In August 2014 I joined DelAgua and after six months, I was promoted from Health Supervisor to District Program Manager. The programme had only just began in Rwanda, I was able to manage parts of it and achieve deadlines that looked impossible by growing with it and working under pressure. I worked with a variety of people from all over the world, managing several teams of community health workers and learnt how to interact politely with local authorities.
Through this experience, I discovered that efficient distribution requires efficient planning and coordination, and that nobody can accomplish it without ownership, professionalism and perseverance.
When I initially started working at DelAgua, I was a young graduate; today, I am married, have two kids, and will soon complete my master’s degree in Public Health/Global Health. I’m happy about the company’s rapid growth and the joy it has brought to millions of Rwandans.
What I have learnt from working at DelAgua is the ability to work using my own initiative, knowing that you must do your work well and on time and being able to do many things in a short amount of time. I have also learnt about the carbon market too, knowing and seeing that a fuel-efficient stove can change the lives of many people.
I am grateful for the opportunity to travel the entire lovely country, meet new people and distribute thousands of upgraded stoves. I am pleased to receive gratitude from new hires, this makes me proud as I have been able to help them in adjusting and successfully completing their tasks.
