DelAgua, the world’s leading carbon project developer in clean cookstoves for rural sub-Saharan Africa, has announced its expansion into Uganda through a partnership with Carbon Horizon, a division of global energy company Union Energy. This partnership will bring DelAgua’s flagship Live Well programme to rural communities in south-western Uganda, beginning with a pilot phase of 10,000 improved cookstoves, before scaling to other regions across the country.
Uganda becomes the fourth country in DelAgua’s growing portfolio of operations, joining Rwanda, The Gambia, and Sierra Leone marking a step forward in DelAgua’s mission to transform lives by providing access to clean cooking solutions for those who are otherwise unable to afford it.
DelAgua has over a decade of experience delivering large-scale clean cooking programmes to underserved rural communities. To date, more than 2 million improved cookstoves have been distributed, transforming more than 9 million lives. The expansion into Uganda is underpinned by the same integrated model that has delivered exceptional results: trusted partnerships with host governments, a high-quality, fuel-efficient stove provided free of charge, combined with one on one household education, ongoing support, and monitoring, delivered by a locally trained team and funded through carbon finance.

The expansion into Uganda is being undertaken in close collaboration with Government of Uganda through the Ministry of Water and Environment and Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development. DelAgua has already received a Letter of No Objection, allowing the project to commence. This step reflects the project’s alignment with national priorities of climate action, public health, and sustainable development. Our programme also presents a significant opportunity to contribute to Uganda’s engagement with international carbon market under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement, supporting the country’s ambitions to attract climate finance while delivering measurable emissions reductions.
