The DelAgua PLUS Kit range is the next step in flexibility for the DelAgua Water Test Kit family. The Benchtop Incubator, designed for microbiological water monitoring via detection of indicator organisms for E. coli, cholera, salmonella and other faecal water borne pathogens, is the most popular portable water testing system in the developing world.

The Benchtop Kit is provided without a battery, and requires a reliable power source for operation. This can be provided by a car battery or mains supply. The absence of a battery reduces the kit weight significantly and also removes any long term storage concerns.

The Plus Kit exchanges the standard Chlorine/pH block comparator for a disc comparator and Chlorine wheel. The enables the addition of a wide range of other parameters without the need to purchase expensive photometers. Simply take an additional disc and reagents.

The kit also contains a range of additional items:

  • Hand held digital, waterproof, buoyant conductivity/TDS/pH/Temperature meter
  • Comparator block and cuvettes with Chlorine wheel and cuvettes (Expandable to over 100
  • additional parameters as required)
  • 10 Biohazard bags for contaminated pad and membrane storage and disposal
  • 5 pairs of disposable gloves for increased user safety when handling potentially contaminated samples
  • 500ml wash water bottle with directional spray
  • Chinagraph pencil for labelling of the aluminium petri dishes for easy identification
  • Disposable inoculating needles for easy counting of colonies after incubation x 20
  • Total Arsenic (3+ and 5+) Tests (5 tests)
  • Heavy Metals Test Strips (Pack of 50 tests)
  • Protective eye shield

The PLUS kit range now also includes testing capability for Arsenic and an indicator test kit for total 2 valent heavy metals (Copper, Zinc, Lead, Mercury etc). The Oxfam-DelAgua Single Incubator Water Testing Kit was developed by scientists at the University of Surrey in collaboration with colleagues at Oxfam. The kit is designed to help provide information about the safety of water supplies in difficult situations or remote areas where laboratory facilities do not exist.

Critical Parameter Tests

The kit will perform the following tests:

Thermotolerant (faecal) Coliform Count: The kit includes a portable, battery-powered incubator capable of making five cycles of incubation without mains electricity, generator or vehicle power. Thermotolerant (faecal) Coliform counts can be obtained within 14 to 18 hours of sampling giving a reliable indication of sanitary risk without need for transport or laboratory facilities.

Turbidity Test: A measure of the amount of suspended matter in a water supply. Suspended material may consume chlorine disinfectants and require treatment before disinfection.

Chlorine & pH Tests: Many emergency water supplies are dosed with chlorine disinfectant to ensure their safety as drinking water. These tests allow rapid assessment of chlorine levels and aid the efficient control of dosing thereby avoiding waste and ensuring that enough chlorine is present to safeguard the supply.

Other Test: A conductivity meter is provided as an optional component of the kit. Conductivity provides an indication of contamination e.g. saline intrusion or sewage pollution. Additional equipment can be included on request to test for chemicals that may be of local importance.

The kit is supplied with consumables for 200 plates.
