Spain will Switch to 100% Renewable Energy by 2050

Spain has set out plans to switch to entirely renewable sources by 2050.

To reach the ambitious goal the country's government is committing to installing at least 3,000MW of wind and solar power capacity every year, in the next 10 years ahead.

Spain go beyond the present European Union target of 32% renewable energy by 2030, they aim to reach 35% with at least 70% renewable electricity.

Christiana Figueres, former UN climate chief, said: "This comes at an important moment ahead of COP24 where countries are invited to showcase how they meet the goals of the Agreement.” In December nations will meet in Poland to discuss the best ways to meet the goals of the Paris climate agreement and set out an urgent strategy for the coming years.
