DelAgua works in partnership with state governments under the National Rural Drinking Water Program of the Government of India, to design, implement and manage large scale water testing programmes.
With millions of drinking water sources spread across India, identifying unsafe points in order to prioritise action is a huge task. In 2012 alone, the Ministry of Health reported 11.7million cases of acute watery diarrhoea (AWD) & over 1,600 deaths, usually associated with unsafe drinking water, lack of sanitation and poor hygiene.
Innovative testing and paperless real-time reporting systems makes analysing water sources faster than ever, meaning that remedial action and feedback to communities can be provided within 24 hours. Results can be uploaded to the smartphone application and processed in a cloud server meaning graphical data is available immediately on the live-feed dashboard.
We employ a team of local staff to assist with setting up the project followed by the day to day implementation. We currently employ over 30 people in West Bengal including District Consultants and Laboratory Technicians. The local team is a crucial asset to the success of the project.
DelAgua is working with the Public Health & Engineering Department (PHED) of West Bengal under their Vision 2020 initiative and in collaboration with the Water and Sanitation Support Organization(WSSO). Vision 2020 aims to provide a safe, sustainable and adequate water supply to everyone in West Bengal by 2020. Regulations require that every rural public drinking water source be tested once per year for chemical parameters and twice per year for microbiological parameters.
DelAgua is coordinating the implementation of a large scale water quality testing programme across all 18 districts of West Bengal state, which is home to over 90 million people. The DelAgua On-Site Mobile Analysis System encompasses essential bacteriologial, physical and chemical test parameters along with sanitary surveys, which permit both assessment of the safety of drinking water and monitors the efficiency of water treatment and purification processes. By installing the system the programme can reach even the most remote areas across the State.
