          Description

The Single Incubator Lightweight Kit, designed for microbiological water monitoring via detection of indicator organisms for e coli, cholera, salmonella and other faecal water borne pathogens, is the most popular portable water testing system in the developing world. The lightweight kit, for use where the power supply is regular and constant, comes with an AC adaptor and no internal battery. The Oxfam-Delagua Incubator Kit was developed by scientists at the University of Surrey in collaboration with colleagues at Oxfam. It was designed to help provide information about the safety of water supplies in difficult situations or remote areas where laboratory facilities do not exist. Designed to carry out five basic tests to measure the quality of drinking water, (microbiological quality, turbidity, free chlorine, total chlorine and pH), the kit is primarily used in the field, but may also be used in a laboratory or other permanent location. The kit can also be supplied with a range of accessories and upgrades that will increase the scope of your water quality monitoring. A recent survey of DelAgua's customers has shown that many organisations now site the kit in one location and bring water samples back from the field for analysis. These groups always use the main's electricity supply to power the incubator and derive no benefit from the presence of the battery. In order to address the analytical needs of these customers, we redesigned the kit to produce a model that operates directly from the main's electricity supply, yet has the flexibility to be connected to a battery and to be used in the field. The new power supply can also be used to connect the present double incubator kit to the main's electricity supply, allowing you to dispense with the external battery pack. The new lightweight version of the DelAgua Water Test kit retains many of the features of the present kit, but weighs only 5.5Kg. It comes in a Pelican Case for easy of carrying and durability. The new kit is half the weight of the present field kit. • Easy to carry. • Reduced shipping costs. • More storage space for consumables. • No need to retrain staff as the new kit retains many original features and components of the present field kit. • Modified electronics inside allows it to be powered by connection to an external battery or to a cigarette lighter socket in a vehicle. If necessary, the kit can still be taken into the field. • The kit will operate using both 110V and 240V power sources. • No battery maintenance required during storage means that kits can be stock-piled for rapid deployment. Critical Parameter Tests The kit will perform the following tests: Thermotolerant (faecal) Coliform Count The kit includes a portable, battery-powered incubator capable of making five cycles of incubation without mains electricity, generator or vehicle power. Thermotolerant (faecal) Coliform counts can be obtained within 14 to 18 hours of sampling giving a reliable indication of sanitary risk without need for transport or laboratory facilities. Turbidity Test A measure of the amount of suspended matter in a water supply. Suspended material may consume chlorine disinfectants and require treatment before disinfection. Chlorine & pH Tests Many emergency water supplies are dosed with chlorine disinfectant to ensure their safety as drinking water. These tests allow rapid assessment of chlorine levels and aid the efficient control of dosing thereby avoiding waste and ensuring that enough chlorine is present to safeguard the supply. Other Tests A conductivity meter is provided as an optional component of the kit. Conductivity provides an indication of contamination e.g. saline intrusion or sewage pollution. Additional equipment can be included on request to test for chemicals that may be of local importance. Specifications Dimensions: 370 x 140 x 260mm Weight: Approx 10kg Incubator: Temperature 44 Celsius, power 12v capacity 16 x 47mm petri dish. The kit is supplied with consumables for 200 tests.
